Creating a Parent Observer Account

Why? Welcome to Canvas! Canvas is our learning management system (LMS) for parents and guardians of students in grades K-12 at SCSD2. In Canvas, parents and guardians function as observers. Observers can see what is going on in a course without participating in the course. This is the best way to monitor your student's work and the only way to use the Canvas Parent App.

What Do You Need? It is best to create your account on a computer; but you can use a browser (Safari, Chrome, Edge, Firefox, etc.) on a phone or tablet.

Student Steps: Your STUDENT will generate a pairing code for you to use by following these steps:
1. Your STUDENT will log in to his or her Canvas account.
2. Navigate to https://scsd2.instructure.com/
3. Once logged in, the student will select "Account" and then "Settings."
  
  4. The student will then select "Pair With Observer."
  
  5. A pairing code will be generated. Copy or write the code. The pairing code will only need to be entered by a parent once during the school year but will expire if not used within 24 hours. Click "OK."
  
  If your student is not able to generate your pairing code, please contact the school. One will be generated for you.

2. Parent Steps: The PARENT will obtain and pair with the student by following these steps:

1. Navigate to https://scsd2.instructure.com/login.

2. Click where it says Parent of a Canvas User? Click Here for an Account.

3. You will be prompted to:

- - Enter your name and your email address.
  - Select a password and confirm by re-entering the password.
  - Enter the student pairing code. (See previous steps).
  - Check the box to agree to the terms of use and acknowledge the privacy policy.
  - Click Start Participating

4. Check your email for a confirmation email from Canvas and follow the prompts to confirm your account.

5. Log in to Canvas https://scsd2.instructure.com/login using your email address as your username and the password that you just created.
